Holiday Fun

Christmas is rapidly approaching and the kidlets are starting to get excited. It seems like they started bugging B and I to decorate the tree in October. We tend to prefer to wait until after Remembrance Day to start decorating and there usually isn't a lot of argument, which is a good thing. But as it gets closer and closer to December, we start getting hints and suggestions that it might be a good time to start.

We have slowly been increasing the number of decorations we have around the house. Last year was the first we were in a house together and we bought some outdoor lights for the porch. This year, we added a new 7.5' tree and some new lights for it  as well. We also try and get an ornament for it as well that has some sort of meaning. This year, we were given an ornament as a wedding present which was really nice.

One tradition that we were able to start last year was putting up the Christmas village. It was a gift from years ago and when I was living in an apartment there just wasn't any room. It was one of the few things that I packed up and moved when my last marriage ended and I was so thankful that B was good with helping to put it up. Not only did he help, he also found a way to make it even better by securing the tables that the village sits on to the wall so that our overly enthusiastic dogs can't knock things over. The random cat attacks though, there is very little way to defend against them.

Someone has an audience
We have also been adding to the village every year. Last year we added a ballet studio since one of the kidlets dances. I have had my eye on a few things that I would like to add this year but as yet, other things have taken priority. As it is, though, the place is looking like quite a happening little town.

The finished village
As for parties, thing have been pretty quiet. B's work didn't have a get together this year so we ended up going to one that was hosted by my old job. It was wonderful to see all the people and we sat with a few others who had also left the same company so it definitely added something fun to the evening. After we had been there a couple of hours we snuck out and went to a party hosted by our neighbours. I always love singing karaoke and B is willing to put up with me warbling away.

Other than that, things are shaping up nicely. We have a few more gifts to get and some baking to do. The kidlets will be with their dad so the actual day itself is likely going to be pretty quiet although my parents are coming up to spend the day with us. That's going to be interesting in and of itself but that's another story best saved for another day.
