Thanksgiving

It's Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and Master is home, which makes me very happy indeed. Originally he was going to be away with work and I was trying to figure out what to do so that the weekend would still feel special but wasn't as involved as a full celebration would be. I then found out a week or two ago that he would be home and plans were put into motion to purchase a turkey.

My attitude towards purchasing a bird has always been "go big or go home". The nice thing about turkey is that it saves well so even if there is quite a bit of  meat left it won't go to waste. Luckily there has been a few good sales on so Master and I got not one but two good sized birds. I'm cooking one tomorrow and the other at a later date, likely for lunch meat or some similar purpose.

We ended up getting an invite to come down and visit with my parents. It's always complicated to go and stay with them. It's also complicated to have them come up and stay with us but its at least a little less tense. I love my family but it's very stressful to be around them. My father is much better since I became involved with Master but when I was a single gal he was really pushy and felt the need to try and boss me around. I'm a grown ass woman and very capable of dealing with life and the things it throws at me so many of his suggestions were incredibly unwelcome.

One of the first times that Master and I went down to visit as a couple we ended up getting a hotel room instead of trying to stay with my family. There were extra people in the house anyway and only a limited number of rooms for people to stay in. The kidlets stayed with my family and we stayed at the hotel. It was really lovely and everyone enjoyed having access to the pool at the hotel. We were able to have some time and space where we didn't need to act like a vanilla couple which I think was also very helpful in a lot of ways.

But back to the present. I ended up working this weekend (today, to be exact) and my eldest works tomorrow so going out of town was out of the question. I really, really didn't mind. Instead, we ended up inviting them up for the weekend. They arrive tomorrow and have gotten a hotel room so that should be much easier to handle.

We are having supper tomorrow since Master has to go back to work early Monday. It sucks but I'm just grateful that he was here at all. I'm cooking turkey, potatoes, veggies and a few other things. My family is bringing pie and coleslaw with them which should be yummy. It's going to be a short visit but I think it will be a very good one.
