As of yesterday, there was only one week to go until the move. We had some packers come in to do a "pre-pack" which I think is code for "you guys have too much shit". They come in and look around and pack up all the things that you think you won't need between now and when you arrive in your new home.
We knew it was coming. We had been asked by the moving assessment guy whether we would be okay with them doing that, and we were. They planned to pack the garage and basement but when they got here they ended up packing the basement, the garage, a bunch of stuff in my office and a lot of the things in my dining room. I was able to suddenly grab the cocktail shaker, some wine glasses, and some things for pouring and drinking alcohol so if we need a mixed drink to take the edge off we can.
The actual move thing will take place over three days which is normal for military moves. They will finish the packing on the 28th, load it all into the truck on the 29th and then the 30th is normally for cleaning etc. Our landlords are fantastic so they are getting a cleaner in for us and we can just get on the road which is AH MAY ZING.
The process is a bit stressful... well, no. It's a lot stressful. I thought I was dealing with it pretty well but apparently that's not the case. When I get sufficiently stressed for long enough periods of time, my IBS flares up. So today, instead of going to work, I get to hang out at home near the bathroom where I don't have to try and lift heavy things. It's for the best, I guess.
I'm hoping this clears up before we have to drive hundreds of kilometers each day. We're on a tight schedule and we can't afford to make stops every 15 minutes.
Other than that, things are going well here. All of the hotels have been booked, we can't book the cats on the plane until tomorrow and it's just a whole lot of waiting for things to happen. Luckily, we won't need to do that much longer.
